Discipline

Discipline is a process of guiding behavior. It helps children understand their feelings and express them appropriately. It encourages children to be sensitive and cooperative with others. Children’s behavior is influenced by their development, their environment and the adults who care for them.

• Use calm, helpful language

• Set clear, age-appropriate limits

• Offer choices

• Teach children what to do instead of focusing on what not to do

• Teach children to solve problems with words

• understand that children's misbehavior is normal and natural

• focus on the child's behavior rather than on the child's self

• Young children do not develop well when they are pressured, frightened, threatened or punished
